So, as my title above, DARK UNDERARMS.
I think it's our common problem here in Malaysia, right? As far as I know, these dark underarms are usually caused by regular uses of hair removal cream, shaving, excessive sweating, poor underarms ventilation, an accumulation of dead skin cells, or the use of alcohol-based deodorant/antiperspirants.
Well, no worries. I've got several simple & easy peasy ways to get rid of those annoying problems! All au naturel! :D
Seriously, real food solves almost everything. From health to everything, really! Let's check these out :-
1. POTATO
Rub a thin slice of potato on your underarms or grate the potato and apply its juice to those dark areas. Allow your arms to dry for around 15 - 20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. Do this twice daily and allow the potatoes bleaching properties working their magic, without the irritation. You can do this using cucumbers as well. :)
2. LEMON
Rub a lemon wedge on your skin for a few minutes. Let it sit for 10 minutes then wash it off thoroughly. Mind you that lemon can be harsh, so applying moisturizer afterwards will helps, like evoo (extra virgin olive oil).
3. BAKING SODA
Mix baking soda and water to make a thick paste. Scrub it on those dark areas then wash the paste off and pat your underarms dry. Do this few times a week. Baking soda and cornstarch can also help to neutralizes odor.
4. VINEGAR
Mix rice flour with vinegar. Take the resulting thick paste and apply it during hot shower. Let the paste to dry for 10 - 15 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Repeat few times a week.
5. MILK
Mix 2 tablespoon of full fat milk, 1 tablespoon of flour and 1 teaspoon of plain yogurt to make a thick paste. Apply this paste on your underarms and leave it for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. Do this a few times a week.
There you go, all easy peasy ways right?! :D
Anyway, once your dark underarms are gone, you want them to stay gone, right? Here's what you can do :-
√ Try waxing your underarms instead of shaving - because when we shave, we raise the risk to have the development of ingrown hair, which can generate the dark underarm appearance. Waxing will ensure that the full hair strands comes right out of the follicle.
√ Try using coconut oil in place of shaving cream, it will leave your skin feeling smooth and soft the natural way! In addition, rubbing coconut oil also helps to clear up dark underarms as well.
√ Exfoliate your underarms once a week to prevent the build up of dead skin cells.
√ Try using a natural antiperspirant to control sweating and keep your underarms smelling good without applying a layer of harmful ingredients on your underarms.
In some instances, dark underarms can indicate a medical condition called acanthosis nigricans, which is linked to insulin resistance, obesity, hormonal disorders, certain medications and cancer. Talk to your doctor if you suspect a deeper issues regarding your dark underarms.
